Common name: Black-eyed Susan, Brown-eyed Susan

A member of the sunflower family, this plant is an annual, biennial or a short-lived perennial herb that arises from a taproot. Its has erect branched stems that are 30-100 cm tall and bear alternate simple leaves. The flowers are showy with a globose head that has both ray and disk floret. Flowering from June- October. Native Americans prepared infusions and decoctions of the roots, flowers, stems and leaves for various ailments.
